Standards Australia's food technology (FT) committees were established during the early 1980s to develop Standards for the food industry, and mainly, for the daily industry. The committees cover food science and technology in the areas of food microbiology, water microbiology, manufacturing plants and equipment for the food industry, materials in contact with foods, recommended practices and test methods for various physical, chemical and sensory parameters of foods. After two decades, it was time to re-assess the Standards needs of the food industry due to technological developments in food science and technology, emerging areas, and trade implications for Australian Standards on food and agricultural products in national and international markets.
