THE rise of the Farm Progress Show out of a cornfield is a dream come true for Decatur ag and community leaders. It might be likened to the dream of A. E. Staley 75 years ago. His stately corporate office building — the "Castle in the Cornfields" —stands as a major Decatur landmark today. The permanent biennial site marks a new era for the "World's Fair of Agriculture." The foundation has been laid in the form of underground phone, electric, sewer and water lines. Paved streets and an exhibit field are shaped to optimal drainage grade. Four permanent rest room areas on the exhibit field, and air-conditioned seminar rooms at the adjacent Community college offer a new level of convenience and comfort to show goers.
