Concerns over pressure from governments through taxation and health programmes seem to be the primary machinery sector's current underlying worry. CPM Wolverine Proctor, a manufacturer of primary processing equipment, states: "The industry will be around for some time to come, but pressure by governments through taxation and health programmes will eventually result in a decline of total tonnages processed and cigarettes sold."rnHowever, this established company also looks on the bright side for the future: "Present pressures are concerned with raising the efficiency of existing plants and reconfiguring or refurbishing or amalgamating plants. There is also pressure on cost. To combat this some companies are looking at reconstituted tobacco use, in addition to other fillers such as expanded stem. RYO is also being pushed."
