Cyprus continues to suffer from a long drought that limits water supply to the local population and the growing tourisr industry. As in Australia, most of the population and economic activity is centred along the coast, so seawater desalination is the obvious solution for securing a high-quality water supply. A few large-scale seawater desalination plants operate in the country but their current capacity still falls short of requirements.
