A social and environmental overview of solid waste management in Mexico

The Universidad Autonoma de Baja California is concerned about the quality of the environment in the border region between the United States of America and Mexico. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) requires the observance of environmental regulations to maintain environmental sustainability for next generations to come. I should emphasize that maintaining environmental quality has been established today as a central discipline in modern science, engineering and technology, which is already being linked to the crucial, current problems of climate change and global warming. The development and implementation of efficient and sound technologies for waste management will seriously contribute to the maintenance of a clean and healthy environment.
