The author very appropriately indicates that the conversion of solid fuel in a packed or in a moving bed involves several steps including drying, pyrolysis, devolatilization, and gasification. Additionally, the conversion process involves several aspects of chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. The book presents analyses and simulation methods of the conversion process, which are based on the various mechanisms that take place at different times and length scales.
