Biomass power plants in western Sicily, Italy

The recovery of energy from biomass represents one of the many options available to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions resulting from fossil fuel utilization. Several locations, including Sicily and in particular the territory of the Province of Trapani, might be favoured for biomass valorisation due to the abundant residues from agriculture and widespread electrical network coverage. These two factors make the area an ideal location for biomass power plants. The proposed approach is based on reference models applied to existent regional data, therefore taking into account the current cost of collecting and transporting the biomass from production sites to the facility.
