Evaluation of the site in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, for the final disposal of solid residues

Incorrect handling of solid residues causes serious damage to the environment, especially at the point of final disposal where waste is unloaded and settles. In Mexico the sites most commonly used for the final disposal of Solid Urban Residues (SUR) and Residues requiring Special Handling (SH) are, unfortunately, Open-Air Dumps (OAD), where the waste is simply off-loaded onto the ground without any control whatsoever, thus provoking a series of aggressively harmful effects that prejudice both humans and the environments where the dumping takes place.
