摘要

In India the urban population is currently growing at an annual rate of about 3.5% and the urban population in 2011 accounted for 31% of India's total population. A rapidly growing population puts enormous stress on existing infrastructures and continuously requires more resources to maintain the same standards (Nareshkumar and Sudha, 2009). The urban population of Asia generates around 760 x 103 tons of MSW per day, and this is expected to increase to 1.8 x 106 tons by 2025 (Chattopadhyay et al., 2009).
