The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) initiated its activities in 1970 and after 50 years of existence its mission remains relevant: to promote and develop sustainable and professional waste and resource management worldwide. Since the beginning, ISWA has been a science-focused organization, oriented to produce, sponsor and conduct knowledge about this industry and to disseminate it around the world, focusing on improving environmental and public health protection.Considering its role as a catalyst and aiming to expand its influence to improve waste management throughout the world, in 2018 ISWA's General Assembly approved a new strategy, based on the following priorities to be implemented during the period of2020-2030:a.Strengthening National Membership values;b.Improving regional and de-centralized representation;c.Developing a waste management network of municipalities and local authorities;d.Pursuing and developing research and education campaigns of global interest.
