Songjiaping Tunnel is located in Qingjian County, Shaanxi Province, China, which is one in poorly soft surrounding new loess soil, 408 m in length. A sharp slope to the left of inlet section of the tunnel, 12-18 m in depth, led to eccentric compression to this tunnel. The initial support arch settlement up to 12 cm and a crack with 4 cm in width on the hill slope were found while the tunnel was excavated by bench method in inlet section about 28 m in distance. In order to reduce the deformation of the tunnel and make sure that the future excavation is safe, the improvement technique for the ground had to be adopted. After contractor's consultation with owner and designer, the horizontal jet grouting as pre-lining was planned to be used in this tunnel.
