Sewer rehabilitation should perform two functions for the owner. The collapse of the pipe can be avoided by inserting a liner that provides structural strength to support the earth load above the pipe. Grouting the service lines after lining stops the groundwater from coming into the pipe, removing the backfill around the pipe. Grouting also supports the pipe from all sides wherever voids exist, preventing further sags in the line, which can lead to collapse.
