On Suspension Rheology

A new rheological theory of suspensions is suggested. The generalized equation derived for dilute suspensions coincides with the Einstein equation and is consistent with the observed rheological behavior of suspensions for any solids content. Unlike previous theories, the new theory explains the dependence of suspension viscosity on particle liophilicity and size, as well as the viscosity extremum observed in the case of a bimodal particle-size distribution.
