A noteworthy panel discussion and question and answer session immediately followed. There were a few specific questions related to who will lay the groundwork that provides authority control and makes data available on the Web as Linked Data. Multiple panelists stated that this would open a door to great opportunities for the library community, particularly cataloging practitioners. There was a consensus that the current model of creating bibliographic records will continue. However, the recasting of current cataloging efforts will bring "revitalization of authority control on the Web." Creating Linked Data on the Web is creating contexts and relationships on the Web, which is essentially identical to the work that the library community has done in the past. In order to allow the community to continue to play a role, next generation catalogs should fully embrace Linked Data and allow the library community to bring more data on the Web level.
