INTEGRATING ERMS INTO THE ILS: SYSTEMS FOR HOLISTIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. A REPORT OF THE LITA/ALCTS ELECTRONIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT INTEREST GROUP MEETING, AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION MIDWINTER MEETING, DALLAS, JANUARY 2012

The Electronic Resource Management Interest Group (ERMIG) is interested in the emerging meta-ILS or Unified Resource Management systems (URMs). With electronic resources absorbing more and more of library materials budgets, the management of these resources is becoming the rule rather than the exception. The new meta-ILSs currently in development will incorporate the management of e-resources into the core functions of the ILS. Two speakers presented their conceptualizations of these new systems, Maria Collins (North Carolina State University; NCSU) and John Larson (Ex Libris, Inc.). Following these talks, members of several of the National Information Standards Organization's (NISO) working groups presented annual updates.
