摘要

This paper describes Part I of a two-part study that demonstrates how using viscous dampers-Taylor Dampers in this case-significantly improves the performance of tall buildings. Part II will appear in the December issue of this Journal. The limit state of primary focus is the first structural damage limit state. Drifts are improved with the use of Taylor Dampers and also very significantly there is a large reduction in floor accelerations and damage to personal occupant contents.
