With the current emphasis on renewable energy usage to mitigate the climate change issues this planet now faces, it is no surprise that the number of manuscripts submitted to Solar Energy has increased dramatically in the last few years. With the growing number of papers being submitted in all of the areas of solar energy and the limited number of pages available, stricter criteria are being applied. In the areas of solar radiation and solar resource assessment, which have been a stalwart of this journal since its very beginning in 1957, considerable strides have been made. In recent years, dramatic changes in modeling efforts have followed the rapid development in spaceborne imaging and monitoring capabilities and have resulted in a number of excellent papers.
