Historical Gliders TG-3A

This is the third article in the series on the five types of training gliders sold as war surplus in 1945. These roughly 450 2-seat gliders, selling for about $500 each, led to a dramatic expansion of soaring in the decades following WWII. Before that there were only a handful of 2-seat gliders in the U.S. Earlier articles in this series looked at the Pratt-Read (TG-32) and the LK-10A (TG-4A).This one will look at the TG-3A (SGS 2-12) which received a civilian type certificate in 1945. Most would agree the TG-3A was the least glamorous of the war surplus fleet, but they might also agree it was the most rugged.
