The landing methods you learn, develop, and become comfortable with at your home airport will serve you well for the eventual strange airport or off-field landing. Your local flying skills and judgments become comfortable, and the thinking processes also become more or less automatic. Eventually, these skills will be used to enable safe landings at an unfamiliar airport or a farm field where the landmarks, shapes, slopes, and hazards will affect how well you are able to transfer the judgments learned at your home airfield to an entirely different set of problems including issues and even illusions you have never encountered before. When landing at your home airfield, you are developing skills required for safe cross-country flying.
