The joy I obtained from chasing soaring records in the Great Basin during the summers of 2013 and 2014, previously reported in these pages, did not abate in the summer of 2015. What did abate, unfortunately, was good soaring weather. Most Great Basin soaring pilots considered the summer of 2015 to be the worst season of the past five or ten years. After accomplishing my first 1,250 km FAI triangle in 2014, my main goal for the summer of 2015 was to try for an even longer triangle. That was not to be because of the weather. Instead, given the conditions presented to me, I refocused on doing shorter tasks with the aim of learning to fly faster. The result was two memorable days that made the summer immensely satisfying despite the poor weather. Both of these days had an unusual character: at first I didn't succeed, but then I tried again.
