Welcome to this installment of ACM SIGMOD Record's series of interviews with distinguished members of the database community. I'm Marianne Winslett, and today we are in Istanbul, site of the ICDE 2007 conference. I have here with me Surajit Chaudhuri, who is a research area manager at Microsoft Research. Surajit's current research interests lie in self-tuning databases, data cleaning, and text. Surajit is an ACM Fellow, and he received the SIGMOD Contributions Award in 2004. His PhD is from Stanford.
