摘要

Material properties are always closely linked to the microstructure and chemical composition of their constituent materials, which are, in turn, dependent on the initial materials and processes used in their manufacture. For objectives-oriented materials development, therfore, it is of decisive importance to be aware of the relationships between the manufacturing process and the structure of a material and between the structure and the material's properties. Powerful analytical methods help to clarify these relationships by means of detailed characterization of the microstructure and precise analysis of the composition: such methods therefore play an indispensable role in materials development.
