Joining Hands in Memory Development

The integrated circuits market has experienced above-average growth rates for a number of years. Driving this growth are memory modules, and particularly DRAMs (dynamic random access memories). As figure 1 indicates, memory modules, with an expected market share of well over 30% in 1998, are slated to continue growing in importance. Moreover, dynamic memory not only sets the pace in the marketplace, but also provides the impetus for basic research. The regular structures of memory cells and transistors are particularly suitable for the testing and development of future manufacturing methods.
