Market fundamentals in 2008/2009

From a total of 7.9 billion tonnes of seaborne trade in 2009, about 36.9 per cent are attributable to crude oil and mineral oil products and gas, 24.8 per cent to major dry bulks (iron ore, coal and grain), 13.3 per cent to bauxite and other minor bulks and the remainder of 25 per cent to general cargo, ro-ro and increasingly to container shipments. According to Clarkson Research Limited, containerised cargo had a share of 15.3 per cent in total seaborne trade in 2009.
