Armed with a new recall provision, the Council of the National Academy of Engineering has taken the next step and asked the membership to approve the removal of President Harold Liebowitz, who won the office last year on a vow to invigorate the quiescent institution [SGR, May 15: "Step Toward Ousting NAE Head Passes, 1145-196"]. Theballots, by mail, are due by June 23. Liebowitz responded with a mailed questionnaire asking the Academy's 1800 members to check "yes" or "no" on various questions, including "Should Liebowitz step down?" and "Should the Council step down?"
