Once works start on site it is almost inevitable that changes will need to be made to the design. These may be due to unforeseen factors - such as an underground pipe or cable being in a different location from that shown on the relevant operator's plan - or due to a refinement of the design, for any one of dozens of reasons. Whatever the reason, changes will lead to a re-evaluation of the overall scheme to ensure that the original brief is complied with and that any existing buildings are as far as possible restored to good condition. And that, in turn, may require less essential works to be deferred or completely omitted. Or it may be decided that the scope of the works should be slightly amended or enlarged.
