Riba journal has commissioned strategic advisor and business coach James Cooke to write a series of articles on managing the recession, to start next month. Cooke, who has run masterclasses on management matters for the RIBA, will also offer telephone advice and provide further information on his website. 'Very few practices are headed by people who experienced the last big recession in a managerial position,' says Cooke, who is concerned that many firms, especially smaller ones, lack the strategic determination to face the future with real confidence. His advice is to take tough decisions now, even if they are 'draconian', rather than make small tentative changes on a piecemeal and constant basis.
