Architects don't just do buildings. Young outfit BACA (Barker and Coutts Architects) has developed quite a specialism in planning flood-resistant developments. Now, the fruits of its Life project (Long-term Initiatives for Flood-risk Environments) have been published. The study was carried out under the aegis of the BRE and funded by Defra. BACA has worked with leading engineering, landscape and cost consultants. It has been distilled into a summary, The Life Handbook, for anyone building in such increasingly flood-threatened places.
