Mr warren has referred to the prevalent impression that Bodley could not draw. In the ordinary sense of the word this is true. He was never an expert draughtsman; no water-colours or perspective sketches or even fine geometrical drawing issued from his hands. He did not, in fact, attach any importance to drawing in so far as his work was concerned, and he always contended that less attention to pretty drawing would be better for the art of architecture. His own methods of drawing were delicious and amusing, but they were hardly such as would commend themselves to most of us. He loved a 3B pencil and hated needle-point compasses.
