My prototype Cub fuselage is very similar to the Sig kit version but has wooden engine bearers and the wing centre section included. The drawing has a slightly altered structure using 3/16" square hard balsa with additional formers to help align the. box and add structural integrity to the wing centre section. A design feature that I always like to use on my scale models is a fuel tank box that is accessible from the front. The engine will have to come out to get to the tank but it is a great advantage to be able to get at it and the tank box stops any ingress of fuel to the rest of the airframe. I have decided to use a similar bent wire undercarriage as the kit model but with a custom made more realistic tail-wheel unit. If the plans are to be scaled up to 1:5 scale, or bigger, I would suggest that a working undercarriage of a similar design to the full size is fabricated for the main unit.
