n our sister magazine, Quiet & Electric Flight International, regular columnist Dereck Woodward has been on a campaign to reduce balsa wood waste by eliminating superfluous horizontal stabilisers. Wanting to be environmentally conscious, I joined in and so designed the Beatrix, Named for a dear beagle of ours who'd lost her tail to a tumour, but never lost her feisty playfulness, I hoped the model Beatrix would turn out as much fun as her namesake. Happily, Dereck was right and the little Beatrix flew pretty well. But, she still needed a bit of tweaking.
