Human occupation of the eastern La Plata Basin and the adjacent littoral region during the mid-HoLocene

Evidence of human occupation in this area of southeastern South America during the mid-Holocene is described and interpreted. The archaeological data and the cultural development are evaluated in the context of paleoenvironmental information. The analysis and interpretation of the available evidence confirms that climatic and environmental fluctuations during the Mid-Holocene affected several aspects of the human occupation of such area: the arrival of new ethnic groups, their dispersion and cultural diversification, changes in technology and subsistence strategies, population growth and territorial expansion, and increase in cultural complexity.
