Exploring faunal dynamics and extinction in the Quaternary

In October, 2007, the annual meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) was held in Austin, Texas, hosted by the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas, Austin. Austin is the home of Ernest L Lundelius, Jr., Honorary Member and Past President of the SVP and Director Emeritus of the Vertebrate Paleontology Laboratory at UT Austin (Fig. 1). In honor of Ernie's lifelong commitment to, and contributions in, the science of vertebrate paleontology, it was fitting to hold a symposium in recognition of his achievements, and the 2007 meeting offered an ideal venue for such an event.
