Past climate dynamics and human occupation: Eurasian perspectives on environmental archaeology

Environmental archaeology traditionally represents an integral and vital part of interdisciplinary Quaternary studies. The objective of this special volume of Quaternary International is aimed at the recent developments and achievements in environmental archaeology and geoarchaeology sciences, following the AEA Conference in Poznan, Poland (September 12-15, 2007). This international venue was organised in order to foster a close interaction of environmental archaeologists from Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the eastern regions of Asia, with the main effort to present, discuss and integrate current and to some degree specific national research approaches and strategies in the Quaternary (geo)archaeology sciences in the broad geographical and chronological (Pleistocene-Holocene) context of temperate Eurasia (Fig. 1).
