Setting on target and reducing Variation (Or vice versa?)

Effective management of manufacturing variation need not wait for a process to be set up and operating so that we observe results and react after the fact. Cost-effective varia- tion reduction can only come from proactively determining what input causes have an influence on the nature and the amount of the inevitable daily variation that is passed on (transmitted) to the process output.
