Advantages of steel sleeves over composite materials for pipeline repair

To prevent an area of corrosion damage from causing a pipeline to rupture, the area containing the damage must benreinforced to prevent the pipeline from bulging. While the use of non-metallic composite materials to repair corrosionnand other damage has increased in recent years, the most predominant method of repair for cross-country pipelinesnis to install a full-encirclement steel sleeve. The basic principles of pipeline repair using steel sleeves, along with somenadvantages over the use of composite materials, are presented.
