Performance modelling and evaluation of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks

This special issue of Performance Evaluation brings together five research papers reflecting some of the latest original achievements in the area of performance modelling and evaluation of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks. These papers have been selected as extended and revised versions, subject to peer review, from those originally accepted for presentation at the 1st ACM International Workshop on Performance Evaluation of Wireless Ad Hoc, Sensor, and Ubiquitous Networks (PE-WASUN' 04), which was held in conjunction with the 7th ACM International Symposium on Modelling, Analysis and Simulation of Wireless and Mobile Systems (MSWiM' 04), October 4-6, 2004, Venice, Italy. Each paper has been reviewed by at least two or three referees drawn from the PE-WASUN' 2005 Programme Committee and other known researchers in the field. The selected papers address a wide range of issues encountered in the performance modelling and evaluation of mobile ad hoc and sensor networks, and their contributions are outlined below.
