Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe the challenges presented by the global economicrncrisis.rnDesign/methodology/approach - The paper focuses on effects as they pertain to the author'srninstitution as well as the larger library community.rnFindings - The paper suggests libraries and library associations must develop new ways ofrnperforming business.rnOriginality/value - The paper describes an initiative of the International Coalition of LibraryrnConsortia to work with publishers to contain costs, placing in context the challenges noted above.
