The UK government this week defended its digital switchover policy against allegations that it is biased in favour of the Freeview digital-terrestrial platform. Last month, BSkyB group strategy director Mike Darcey told the parliamentary committee investigating analogue switch-off that restrictions on planning permission for satellite dishes meant that the platform was not on a level playing-field with digital terrestrial. He also complained that the BBC's digital-television advertising campaign mentioned Freeview, but referred only to "digital satellite" and "digital cable" rather than cite BSkyB and the cable operators by name.
