Brussels may resist review of Sky Italia terms

The European Commission said this week that it had no plans to review the tough conditions imposed on Sky Italia three years ago which the satellite broadcaster insists are now out of date. The far-reaching conditions were put in place when Sky Italia was formed in 2003 with the merger between Vivendi s Telepiu and Stream, owned by News Corporation and Telecom Italia. They are due to stay in place until the end if 2011. But Sky Italia is already considering whether to ask Brussels to relax some conditions, on the grounds that the competitive landscape in Italian pay-television has changed significantly since the merger.
