Mediaset attacks DVB failure to agree common standard for mobile TV security

Mediaset, Italy's leading commercial broadcaster, this week hit out at the failure of Europe's digital television-standards body to establish a common system of content protection for mobile television. Manlio Cruciatti, Mediaset's director of technology, criticised the Digital Video Broadcasting Group (DVB) for ratifying two different systems between which "there is no possibility to have compatibility." It was the first time DVB had ever come up with a "non-uniform" standard, said Cruciatti, who claimed that it could mean that a handset based on the DVB-H standard made for one European country might be impossible to use in another.
