Mobile TV terms are set to emerge as DVB restates patent concerns

The licensing terms under which broadcasters and network operators will be able to use the mobile-television technology favoured by the European Commission are set to be revealed early next year, removing one of the main obstacles to the widespread deployment of the DVB-H system. Sisvel, an Italy-based company recently appointed to represent the patent holders behind DVB-H - many of which are still not known publicly - told New Media Markets that full licensing terms would be announced in the first quarter of 2008. At the same time, the DVB Project - the European digital-television standards body - is preparing a statement on its intellectual property rights (IPR) policy, which was thrown into disarray by hidden holders of patents for the MHP interactive-television standard.
