Top Up TV set for international launches

Top Up TV, the pay-television operator on the UK's digital-terrestrial platform, is understood to be planning to launch services in two European markets next year. This international expansion has been facilitated by investment from private-equity company Balderton Capital, as well as fresh funds from majority shareholder Access Industries, the US industrial group. Both Access and Balderton, formerly Benchmark Capital, are believed to have committed a significant sum to the business to support new ventures and to push the UK operation more aggressively. Balderton is also a shareholder in the Setanta pay-television broadcaster, while Access took control of UK online sports specialist Premium TV in June this year.
