German DVB-H plans hit stumbling block

Tensions between commercial and public-service broadcasters are direatening to derail plans to launch Germany's DVB-H mobile-television platform in time for the European football championships next summer, the country's media authorities warned this week. Mobile 3.0, which last month won preliminary approval to operate the platform (NMM October 26, 2007), last week missed its deadline to supply Germany's media authorities with a channel plan for the service and has still to sign any contracts with broadcasters. The company, which had already missed an original deadline of November 9, now has until 31 December to break the deadlock. If it fails, it would risk losing its status as the preliminarily approved platform operator.
