Inuk Networks, an IPTV operator that targets students living on UK university campuses, is gearing up to attack the residential market next year. The company plans to launch its Freewire TV IPTV service to the wider residential market in March 2008, offering more man 100 linear television channels over the national network of Cable & Wireless. While Inuk has no plans to confront pay-television market leader BSkyB or Virgin Media, chief executive Marcus Liassides said that the company would take on IPTV operators BT Vision and Tiscali TV. Inuk's service is available to 100,000 student rooms, although the company has not disclosed customer numbers beyond saying "several tens of thousands". "Our primary objective is to keep student users as they move into private accommodation," said Liassides. "This could filter out into the general residential market but we are not banking on it to make the business successful."
