The launch of two key future digital-television platforms in Spain has been set back by withdrawal of legislation to enable the early launch of DVB-H mobile television and a move by the main opposition party to block pay services on digital-terrestrial television. Broadcasters, mobile operators and technology companies have been waiting for many months for the government to approve the legislative changes needed to allocate frequencies for DVB-H mobile television. The government was to do this through an amendment to legislation on measures to pro- mote the information society but the section of the bill that included the amendment was withdrawn in the final stages of its parliamentary progress. With an already crammed legislative agenda for the coming months, a disappointed industry is now resigned to no action being taken until after the general election next March.
