A task force from the American College ofnNeuropsychopharmacology published a preliminarynreport (www.acnp.org/exec_summanry.pdf) in January assessing selective serotoninnreuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) for treatingndepressed children and adolescents.nConsistent with the prevailing view of U.S.npsychiatrists, the College recommendedncontinued use of these medicines. Thenstudy concluded that SSRIs are effectivenfor youths and that clinical data linkingnthe drugs to suicidal behavior was not statisticallynsignificant.
