RFID set to replace bar codes

As reported in EE Times Europe, researchers at the European Hoist Center have claimed that their 64-bit, inductively coupled, passive radio-frequency ID tag achieved a record 780-bit/second data readout. In a presentation at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference, the researchers said the performance over a distance of 10 cm approaches the requirements for tagging products and other items.
