The telecom industry needs repeatedly to reinvent itself and redefine/augment its capabilities in the face of ever changing and increasing end user demands: first wireless, then voice-over-IP networks. Video-over-IP (or IPTV) represents the critical third element of a complete 'triple-play' customer offering. Convergence and all-IP networks, new market entrants' and cable MSOs' new services increase competition in the traditional Telco market space. Competition and the larger range of services give buyers the advantage. Suppliers and service providers must offer better services than the competition (differentiation), compete based on cost, or do both. (Figure 1).
