Microwave electronics has come a long way since automotive radar was first experimented with in the late 1950's. Today commercial single chip transceivers for 77 GHz systems are becoming a reality. For example, Fujitsu Laboratories Limited in Japan in February 2009 claimed the development of the world's first radio frequency transceiver chip produced with 90 nm CMOS process technology that operates at the 77 GHz frequency, designed for use in automotive radars
